Not mentioned by Fu et al. 2011:853 [ref. 31691]. •Questionably a synonym of Neosalanx brevirostris (Pellegrin 1923) -- (Roberts 1984:212 [ref. 5318]). •Valid as Neosalanx tangkahkeii (Wu 1931) -- (Zheng et al. 1989:28 [ref. 21202], Liang in Pan et al. 1991:47 [ref. 23876] as tangkahkei, Zhang & Qiao 1994:101 [ref. 18971], Lim in Randall & Lim 2000:590 [ref. 25122], Zhang et al. 2007:336 [ref. 29562], Kottelat 2013:268 [ref. 32989], Zhang et al. 2016:188 [ref. 34477], Zhang et al. 2019:508 [ref. 36699]). Current status: Valid as Neosalanx tangkahkeii (Wu 1931). Salangidae. Distribution: East Asia: coastal waters of the South China Sea and lakes and rivers mostly in the Yangtze River basin, China. Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.
