Neotype designated by Malabarba 2004:179 [ref. 28150]. •Incertae inquirenda in Triportheus -- (Malabarba & Lima in Reis et al. 2003:158 [ref. 27061]). •Valid as Triportheus auritus (Valenciennes 1850) -- (Malabarba 2004:178 [ref. 28150], Phillip et al. 2013:17 [ref. 32896], Barriga Salazar 2014:108 [ref. 35745], Sarmiento et al. 2014:54, 185 [ref. 35004], Mariguela et al. 2016:132 [ref. 34141], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:63 [ref. 35633], Silvano et al. 2020:85 [ref. 38133]). Current status: Valid as Triportheus auritus (Valenciennes 1850). Triportheidae: Triportheinae. Distribution: South America: Orinoco and Amazon River basins (Brazil, Colombia, Bolivia, Ecuador, Guiana, Peru, Venezuela; introduced in Trinidad). Habitat: freshwater.
