Paralectotypes: MNHN A-8658 (1, dry), A-9893 (1, dry), A-9394 (1, dry), B-8557 (1, dry). Type catalog: Géry & Lauzanne 1990:117 [ref. 20140], Bertin 1948:14-15 [ref. 19577] with some differences from Géry & Lauzanne. Lectotype selected by Géry & Lauzanne 1990:117 [ref. 20140] but they indicate the lectotype was designated by Géry 1980 (not researched). •Valid as Salminus hilarii Valenciennes 1850 -- (Ortega & Vari 1986:9 [ref. 9708], Géry & Lauzanne 1990:122 [ref. 20140], Taphorn 1992:321 [ref. 23654], Britski 2001:21 [ref. 26046], Lima in Reis et al. 2003:156 [ref. 27061], López et al. 2003:19 [ref. 27366], Menni 2004:74 [ref. 28131], Lima & Britski 2007:242 [ref. 29276], Sarmiento et al. 2014:52, 185 [ref. 35004], Abe et al. 2014:9 [ref. 35462], Mirande & Koerber 2015:20 [ref. 35117], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:63 [ref. 35633], Reis et al. 2020:457 [ref. 38364], Silva et al. 2020:5 [ref. 37809], Meza-Vargas et al. 2021:20 [ref. 39298]). Current status: Valid as Salminus hilarii Valenciennes 1850. Bryconidae: Salmininae. Distribution: South America: Amazon and Orinoco river basin (Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela). Habitat: freshwater.
