Syntypes: BMNH 1883.12.14.222 [ex USNM 17109] (1); USNM 5240 (1), 17109 (orig. 3, now 1), 31226 (3). Type catalog: Gilbert 1998:201 [ref. 23395]. Author is T. N. Gill. Gilbert regarded USNM 5240 as hologype, based on "5240 Lake Tahoe (types C. tahoensis)" given in the original description; Jordan & Evermann 1896:177 [ref. 2443] list 31226 as type but that lot contains 3 specimens and different collector. •Valid as Catostomus tahoensis Gill & Jordan 1878 -- (Lee et al. 1980:391 [ref. 22416], Page & Burr 1991:173 [ref. 18983], La Rivers 1994:352 [ref. 23389], Gilbert 1998:201 [ref. 23395], Fuller et al. 1999:166 [ref. 25838], Moyle 2002:191 [ref. 26449], Nelson et al. 2004:79 [ref. 27807], Scharpf 2006:8 [ref. 30386], Kettratad & Markle 2010:276 [ref. 30991], Page & Burr 2011:315 [ref. 31215], Page et al. 2013:79 [ref. 32708], Bangs et al. 2018:4 [ref. 37913], Page et al. 2023:64 [ref. 40505]). Current status: Valid as Catostomus tahoensis Gill & Jordan 1878. Catostomidae: Catostominae. Distribution: Western North America: Lahontan drainage system, California, Nevada and Oregon (western U.S.A.). Habitat: freshwater.
