Lectotype: 1885.11.7.35. Paralectotypes: BMNH 1885.11.7.36-40 (5), 1887.11.11.289-291 (3). Lectotype established by Esmaeili et al. 2024:6 [ref. 40903] without formal designation. •Synonym of Cyprinion microphthalmum (Day 1880) -- (Banister & Clarke 1977:130 [ref. 7232], Alkahem & Behnke 1983:559 [ref. 8384]). •Synonym of Cyprinion microphthalmum (Day 1880), but a valid subspecies -- (Krupp 1983:589 [ref. 8320]). •Synonym of Cyprinion watsoni (Day 1872) -- (Coad 1995:16 [ref. 23608], Coad 1996:4 [ref. 23831], Jouladeh-Roudbar et al. 2020:67 [ref. 37983]). •Valid as Cyprinion muscatense (Boulenger 1888) -- (Freyhof et al. 2020:138 [ref. 37658], Esmaeili et al. 2022:463 [ref. 39253], Esmaeili & Hamidan 2023:208 [ref. 40377], Çiçek et al. 2024:143 [ref. 40789], Esmaeili et al. 2024:6 [ref. 40903]). Current status: Valid as Cyprinion muscatense (Boulenger 1888). Cyprinidae: Barbinae. Distribution: Middle East: Hajar Mountains (Oman and United Arab Emirates). Habitat: freshwater.
