Appeared first as above with brief characterization, then in Eigenmann & Pearson in Eigenmann & Myers 1929:523, Pl. 57 (fig. 3) [ref. 1263]. Current status: Valid as Moenkhausia simulata (Eigenmann 1924). Characidae: Stethaprioninae. Distribution: South America: western Amazon River basin, Ecuador, Colombia, Peru and Brazil. Habitat: freshwater.
