lineatus, Mullus surmuletus var. Bloch [M. E.] & Schneider [J. G.] 1801:78, [Pl. 18] [M. E. Blochii, Systema Ichthyologiae; ref. 471] Probably Sydney, Australia. No types known. Name used on Pl. 18 is Mullus latamii. See Hutchins 1990:488-489 [ref. 15762] for remarks on type locality. •Valid as Upeneichthys lineatus (Bloch & Schneider 1801) -- (Ben-Tuvia 1986:590 [ref. 6314], Paulin et al. 1989:192 [ref. 24556], Hutchins 1990:488 [ref. 15762], Kuiter 1993:205 [ref. 23929], Francis 1993:162 [ref. 25479], Gomon et al. 1994:605 [ref. 22532], Kuiter 1997:194 [ref. 25488], Randall 2001:3180 [ref. 26109], Kim 2002:62 [ref. 26347], Hoese & Bray 2006:1270 [ref. 29000], Gomon 2008:591 [ref. 30616], Duffy & Ahyong 2015:114 [ref. 36167], Echreshavi et al. 2022:14 [ref. 39234]). Current status: Valid as Upeneichthys lineatus (Bloch & Schneider 1801). Mullidae. Distribution: Southwestern Pacific: southeastern Australia endemic. Kermadec Islands records are based on U. porosus (Cuvier 1829). Habitat: marine.
