Syntypes: BMNH 1898.12.5.1-2 (2) (Damascus, Syria), 1898.12.5.3-4 (2) (Damascus, Syria); MCZ 25533 (1) (Damascus, Syria); MHNG 611.21 (2); MNHN 1883-1139 (1) (Israel); SMF 187 (1); SMNS 3187 (1, lost) (Bahret-el-Hidjane near Damascus, Syria); USNM 48023 (1) (Syria). Type catalog: Blanc 1962:205 [ref. 20868] with 83-1139 as holotype, Bauchot et al. 1978:46 [ref. 20862], Weber 1998:12 [ref. 32707], Fricke 1995:9 [ref. 28100] with date as 1878, Fricke 2005:27 [ref. 29864] with date as 1878. Composite species; usage of species name here restricted to Syrian populations, based on BMNH syntypes; lectotype selection needed. •Synonym of Tristramella simonis (Günther 1864), but a valid subspecies -- (Krupp & Schneider 1989:403 [ref. 13651] with question, Snoeks & Teugels 1991:520 [ref. 20951]). •Valid as Tristramella magdalenae (Lortet 1883) -- (Trewavas 1942:535 [ref. 4452], Çiçek et al. 2023:468 [ref. 40601], Saad et al. 2023:40 [ref. 40501], Çiçek et al. 2024:335 [ref. 40789]). Current status: Valid as Tristramella magdalenae (Lortet 1883). Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Distribution: Middle East: swamps and pools in Damascus area (Syria). Hula Lake and Lake Kinneret (Israel) (there extinct). Habitat: freshwater.
