Type catalog: Böhlke 1984:118 [ref. 13621]. •Synonym of Bodianus leucosticticus (Bennett 1831) -- (Randall 1986:688 [ref. 5706] as leucostictus). •Valid as Bodianus trilineatus (Fowler 1934) -- (Parenti & Randall 2000:7 [ref. 24943], Manilo & Bogorodsky 2003:S114 [ref. 27377], Heemstra & Heemstra 2004:340 [ref. 28072], Gomon 2006:55 [ref. 28730], Khalaf & Zajonz 2007:430 [ref. 31739], Kuiter 2010:24 [ref. 35285], Santini et al. 2016:3 [ref. 39174], Baranes et al. 2017:282 [ref. 35028], Fricke et al. 2018:278 [ref. 35805], Randall & Victor 2022:180 [ref. 39916]). Current status: Valid as Bodianus trilineatus (Fowler 1934). Labridae. Distribution: Red Sea; Western Indian Ocean: Gulf of Aden and East Africa (Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique) south to KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa), east to Madagascar. Habitat: marine.
