coeruleopunctatus, Scarus Rüppell [W. P. E. S.] 1835:24, Pl. 7 (fig. 3) [Neue Wirbelthiere zu der Fauna von Abyssinien gehörig. Fische des Rothen Meeres; ref. 3844] Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Red Sea. Lectotype: SMF 1504. Paralectotypes: SMF 2743 (1, dry). Originally coeruleo-punctatus. Lectotype mentioned by Bruce & Randall 1985:25, 27 [ref. 5234] but with a contradiction in numbers. •Valid as Scarus caeruleopunctatus (Rüppell 1835) -- (Dor 1984:218 [ref. 29757]). •Synonym of Leptoscarus vaigiensis (Quoy & Gaimard 1824) -- (Bruce & Randall 1985:24 [ref. 5234], Choat & Randall 1986:194 [ref. 8099], Parenti & Randall 2000:54 [ref. 24943], Fricke et al. 2018:297 [ref. 35805], Golani & Fricke 2018:132 [ref. 36273], Randall 2022:292 [ref. 39936]). Current status: Synonym of Leptoscarus vaigiensis (Quoy & Gaimard 1824). Labridae. Habitat: marine.
