tanakae, Cyclogaster Gilbert [C. H.] & Burke [C. V.] 1912:357, Pl. 42 (fig. 2) [Proceedings of the United States National Museum v. 42 (no. 1907); ref. 1633] Vries Island, Sagami Bay, Japan. Holotype: CAS-SU 21417. Paratypes: IUT (5) + (1). Type catalog: Böhlke 1953:137 [ref. 12291]. Correction to tanakai is not necessary. The spelling tanakae is acceptable as early workers almost certainly Latinized the name first, and then added an "e' (Art. 31.1.1) [WNE, 12 Mar. 2012]. •Valid as Liparis tanakae (Gilbert & Burke 1912) [often as tanakai] -- (Kido in Masuda et al. 1984:338 [ref. 6441], Lindberg & Krasyukova 1987:427 [ref. 15964], Kido 1988:187 [ref. 12287], Cheng & Zhou 1997:442 [ref. 26385], Sokolovskaya et al. 1998:11 [ref. 24670], Nakabo 2000:667 [ref. 25086], Nakabo 2002:667 [ref. 26001], Choi et al. 2003:279, 586 [ref. 26218], Chernova et al. 2004:29 [ref. 27592], Shinohara et al. 2005:429 [ref. 28370], Chernova 2008:841 [ref. 30236], Shinohara et al. 2014:258 [ref. 33330], Parin et al. 2014:341 [ref. 33547], Song et al. 2015:175 [ref. 36308], Kim et al. 2020:111 [ref. 39118], Sonoyama et al. 2020:93 [ref. 37637], Dyldin & Orlov 2022:218 [ref. 39115]). Current status: Valid as Liparis tanakae (Gilbert & Burke 1912). Liparidae. Distribution: Northwestern Pacific: Yellow Sea, East China Sea, Sea of Japan (Korea, Japan, Russia), Sea of Okhotsk, and Pacific coast of Japan to northern Kuril Islands. Habitat: marine.
