Syntypes: ?BMNH 1852.9.13.179 (1), 1855.12.26.562 (1), 2016.6.6.2 (1). Correct name is mauritiana when in Eleotris (feminine gender). The syntype BMNH 1852.9.13.179 is also the holotype of Eleotris fornasini Bianconi 1857, uncertain as syntype. •Synonym of Eleotris fusca (Schneider & Forster 1801) -- (Maugé 1986:392 [ref. 6218]). •Valid as Eleotris mauritianus Bennett 1832 -- (Hoese 1986:809 [ref. 5670], Miller 1998:289 [ref. 24950], Fricke 1999:495 [ref. 24106], Keith et al. 1999:106 [ref. 24548], Heemstra 2004:3338 [ref. 27945]). •Synonym of Eleotris acanthopomus Bleeker 1853 -- (Mennesson & Keith 2020:186 [ref. 37852] with question). •Valid as Eleotris mauritiana Bennett 1832 -- (Fricke et al. 2009:98 [ref. 30213], Fricke et al. 2018:318 [ref. 35805], Arndt & Fricke 2019:15 [ref. 36883], Zajonz et al. 2019:95 [ref. 36871], Parenti 2021:37 [ref. 38603]). Current status: Uncertain as Eleotris mauritiana Bennett 1832. Eleotridae: Eleotrinae. Distribution: Western Indian Ocean: East Africa, South Africa to Socotra, Seychelles, Comoros, Madagascar and Mascarenes. Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.
