Holotype (unique): whereabouts unknown. Type catalog: Collette & Knapp 1967:33 [ref. 20211], Böhlke 1984:139 [ref. 13621]. Probably named after the Neuse River, so the adjective should be nevisensis when combined with a genus of female gender. •Synonym of Percina peltata (Stauffer 1864), but a valid subspecies -- (Lee et al. 1980:736 [ref. 22416], Kuehne & Barbour 1983:41 [ref. 38055], Page 1983:40 [ref. 22189], Stauffer et al. 1995:332 [ref. 23376]). •Valid as Percina nevisensis (Cope 1870) -- (Goodin et al. 1998:186 [ref. 26749] as nevisense, Nelson et al. 2004:137 [ref. 27807] as nevisense, Scharpf 2008:39 [ref. 30399] as nevisense, Page & Burr 2011:517 [ref. 31215] as nevisense, Page et al. 2013:141 [ref. 32708] as nevisense). •Valid as Percina nevisensis (Cope 1870). Current status: Valid as Percina nevisensis (Cope 1870). Percidae: Etheostomatinae. Distribution: North America: Virginia and North Carolina (U.S.A.). Hydridizes with Percina rex (Jordan & Evermann 1889) (see Roberts 2011:22 [ref. 39995]). Habitat: freshwater.
