Lectotype: MNHN 0000-A5446 (dry). Paralectotypes: MNHN A-5446 (1, dry), A-5448 (2, dry), 7971 (1), 7972 (1) all from Mauritius; MNHN A-5447 (2) Indian Ocean; MNHN 0000-7973 (1) Tahiti; one syntype from Red Sea lost. Type catalog: Bauchot et al. 1981:9-10, 32 [ref. 21549]. Based on literature and specimens; not regarded as a replacement name. Lectotype selected by Iwatsuki et al. 2016:513 [ref. 34361]. •Synonym of Lutjanus kasmira (Forsskål 1775) -- (Dor 1984:140 [ref. 29757]). •Synonym of Lutjanus bengalensis in part (Bloch 1790) -- (Allen & Talbot 1985:21 [ref. 6491] who treat MNHN 7973 as L. kasmira, Allen 1985:61 [ref. 6843], Fricke 1999:266 [ref. 24106]). •Synonym of Lutjanus kasmira (Forsskål 1775) in part -- (Allen 1985:96 [ref. 6843], Fricke 1999:272 [ref. 24106]). •Valid as Lutjanus octolineatus (Cuvier 1828) -- (Iwatsuki et al. 2016:513 [ref. 34361], Fricke et al. 2018:199 [ref. 35805], Heemstra & Heemstra 2022:242 [ref. 39746]). Current status: Valid as Lutjanus octolineatus (Cuvier 1828). Lutjanidae: Lutjaninae. Distribution: Western Indian Ocean: KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa) north to Mozambique, east to Seychelles, Saya de Malha Bank, Madagascar, western Mascarenes (La RĂ©union, Mauritius) and Maldives. Habitat: marine.
