Current status: Valid as Ophichthus serpentinus Seale 1917. Ophichthidae: Ophichthinae. Distribution: Southeastern Atlantic, southwestern Indian Ocean: Namibia south to Cape of Good Hope (South Africa), then south coast of South Africa. Habitat: marine.
