Lectotype desigated by Kottelat & Freyhof 2009:81 [ref. 30320]. •Synonym of Cobitis taenia Linnaeus 1758 -- (Berg 1949:891 [ref. 20661]). •Synonym of Cobitis aurata (De Filippi 1863), but a valid subspecies -- (Lelek 1987:250 [ref. 22962]). •Valid as Cobitis bulgarica Drensky 1928 -- (Sivkov & Dobrovolov 1986:3 [ref. 8038], Michajlova 1989:23 [ref. 20062]). •Valid as Sabanejewia bulgarica (Drensky 1928) -- (Kottelat 1997:92 [ref. 22952], Reshetnikov et al. 1997:744 [ref. 24702], Vasil'eva 1998:103 [ref. 23591], Vassilev & Pehlivanov 2005:173 [ref. 28369], Kottelat & Freyhof 2007:324 [ref. 29996], Kottelat 2012:42 [ref. 32367], Fedočák et al. 2023:2 [ref. 40768]). Current status: Valid as Sabanejewia bulgarica (Drensky 1928). Cobitidae. Distribution: Southeast Europe: Danube River system, Bulgaria to Bosnia and Herzegowina. Habitat: freshwater.
