W.] 1987:53 [Memoirs of the National Museum of Victoria v. 48 (no. 1); ref. 17687] Bass Strait, east of King Island, 39°56.41'S, 144°48.054'E, Tasmania, Australia, depth 49 meters. Holotype: NMV A1404. Paratypes: AMS I.26328-001 [ex NMV A1389] (1); NMV A3733 (2), NMV A1389 (1, now 0), USNM 280181 (1). •Valid as Neoplatycephalus aurimaculatus (Knapp 1987) -- (Kuiter 1993:102 [ref. 23929], Hutchins 2001:28 [ref. 25847]). •Valid as Platycephalus aurimaculatus Knapp 1987 -- (Gomon et al. 1994:516 [ref. 22532], Imamura 1996:199 [ref. 22700], Paxton et al. 2006:940 [ref. 29079], Gomon 2008:518 [ref. 30616], Imamura 2015:177 [ref. 33640]). Current status: Valid as Platycephalus aurimaculatus Knapp 1987. Platycephalidae. Distribution: Southern Australia: New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia. Habitat: brackish, marine.
