Additional material examined (not labeled as paratypes): BPBM 18146 (1), 20817 (1); HUJ 4614 (1), 5061 (1), 9068 (1); LACM 33776-3 (1); NMW 42528 (1), 42574 (1); SMF 4503 (1), 8629 (1); USNM 13146 (1) •Synonym of Plectropomus pessuliferus Fowler 1904, but a valid subspecies as described -- (Goren & Dor 1994:27 [ref. 25356], Randall 2005:166 [ref. 28239]). •Valid as Plectropomus marisrubri Randall & Hoese 1986 -- (DiBattista et al. 2015:19 [ref. 35706], Bogorodsky & Randall 2018:[4] 242 [ref. 36492], Golani & Fricke 2018:65 [ref. 36273], Ma & Craig 2018:456 [ref. 36100], Parenti & Randall 2020:92 [ref. 37354], Heemstra 2022:75 [ref. 39742]). Current status: Valid as Plectropomus marisrubri Randall & Hoese 1986. Epinephelidae. Distribution: Red Sea; northwestern Indian Ocean: Gulf of Aden. Habitat: marine.
