Current status: Valid as Polyipnus clarus Harold 1994. Sternoptychidae: Sternoptychinae. Distribution: Western Atlantic: Nova Scotia Shelf (Canada, Saint Pierre et Miquelon/France) and Gulf of Maine (U.S.A.) south to Rio Grande do Norte (Brazil), including Caribbean Sea. Habitat: marine.
