Holotype: NMNZ P 27063. Paratypes: 9 specimens at CSIRO and HUMZ. Plus non-type specimens. •Valid as Apristurus ampliceps Sasahara, Sato & Nakaya 2008 -- (Naylor et al. 2012:43 [ref. 32267] see remarks, Iglésias 2013:511 [ref. 32534], Nakaya et al. 2015:79 [ref. 34218], Weigmann 2016:30 [ref. 34211], White et al. 2017:25 [ref. 35594]). Current status: Valid as Apristurus ampliceps Sasahara, Sato & Nakaya 2008. Pentanchidae. Distribution: Southern Australia to New Zealand region. Habitat: marine.
