Later described in more detail by Müller & Henle 1841:167 [ref. 3069]. Also in Valenciennes 1847:11 [ref. 5010] as Trygon hystrix with wrong plate number. Pl. 15 was published in 1839. Distribution: South America: Paraná-Paraguay basin (Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay and Uruguay). Habitat: freshwater.
