Paratypes: BC 61-71 (8); NMC 60-500 (1), 62-166 (32), 62-167 (10); ROM 21930 (1). Type catalog: McAllister 1965:8 [ref. 22019]. As a species and a subspecies with a second subspecies, H. transpacificus nipponensis. •Valid as Hypomesus transpacificus McAllister 1963 -- (Lee et al. 1980:123 [ref. 22416], Eschmeyer & Herald 1983:81 [ref. 9277], Page & Burr 1991:56 [ref. 18983], Saruwatari et al. 1997:72 [ref. 23753], Dorofeeva 1998:50 [ref. 23573], Fuller et al. 1999:237 [ref. 25838], Musick et al. 2000:11 [ref. 24959], Moyle 2002:227 [ref. 26449], Nelson et al. 2004:85 [ref. 27807], Love et al. 2005:32 [ref. 37547], Scharpf 2006:22 [ref. 30386], Page & Burr 2011:377 [ref. 31215], Page et al. 2013:86 [ref. 32708]). Current status: Valid as Hypomesus transpacificus McAllister 1963. Osmeridae. Distribution: North America: San Francisco Bay Estuary and Sacramento and San Joaquin river systems (California, U.S.A.). Habitat: freshwater, brackish.
