Paralectotype: BMNH 1855.9.19.751 (1) Sandwich Is. Also appeared as new in Günther 1862:373 [4] [ref. 1968]. Lectotype selected by Krejsa 1960:331 [ref. 11927]. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: Pacific coast of Baja California Sur (Mexico) south to northern Peru, including Gulf of California (Mexico); western Atlantic immigrant through Panama Canal. Habitat: marine.

Syntypes: (153) ANSP 70086 (1) Playa Muerto, 70087 (1) Playa Muerto, 70088-107 (19) Santelmo Bay, 70108 (1) Mexico. Type catalog: Böhlke 1984:27 [ref. 13621] as holotype (ANSP 70086) and paratypes. Fowler did not mention types for this species; therefore they are treated here as syntypes. •Synonym of Hypsoblennius brevipinnis (Günther 1861) -- (Bath 1996:90 [ref. 22687]). Current status: Synonym of Hypsoblennius brevipinnis (Günther 1861). Blenniidae: Salariinae. Habitat: marine.

W.] 1936:393 [Proceedings of the California Academy of Sciences (Series 4) v. 21 (no. 29); ref. 839] Isabela Island [Albemarle Island], Galápagos Islands (at submerged light). Holotype: CAS 3988. Paratypes: CAS (1, 1, 22, 1, 6, 57, 2, 7, 10, 1, 1, 1) but only CAS 21220 (1) on type shelves. •Synonym of Hypsoblennius brevipinnis (Günther 1861) -- (Bath 1996:90 [ref. 22687]).
