Holotype (unique): MNHN 0000-3088. •Synonym of Astyanax bimaculatus (Linnaeus 1758), but a valid subspecies -- (Garutti & Britski 1997:225 [ref. 23650], Garutti 1998:121 [ref. 23797], Garutti 1999:587 [ref. 24920]). •Synonym of Astyanax bimaculatus (Linnaeus 1758) -- (Buckup in Reis et al. 2003:108 [ref. 27061] with question, Mirande & Koerber 2015:1 [ref. 33698] with question). •Species inquirenda -- (Lucena & Soares 2016:119 [ref. 34169]). •Valid as Moenkhausia vittata (Castelnau 1855) -- (Silva & Malabarba 2016:270 [ref. 34515], Silva et al. 2020:6 [ref. 37809], Marinho & Benine 2024:236 [ref. 40817], Vieira-Guimarães et al. 2024:39 [ref. 41258]). Current status: Valid as Moenkhausia vittata (Castelnau 1855). Acestrorhamphidae: Stichonodontinae. Distribution: South America: coastal streams of the Mata Atlântica ecoregion, EspĂ­rito Santo, Minas Gerais and Bahia states (Brazil). Habitat: freshwater.
