Holotype (unique): USNM 47708. •Valid as Argyripnus ephippiatus Gilbert & Cramer 1897 -- (Paxton et al. 1989:190 [ref. 12442], Parin 1992:136 [ref. 20424], Harold 1999:1901 [ref. 24741], Nakabo 2000:312 [ref. 25086], Shinohara et al. 2001:296 [ref. 25995], Nakabo 2002:312 [ref. 26001], Harold & Lancaster 2003:883 [ref. 27382], Mundy 2005:167 [ref. 28379], Paxton et al. 2006:424 [ref. 28995], Harold & Gomon 2008:229 [ref. 30629], Quéro et al. 2009:39 [ref. 30245], Prokofiev 2017:239 [ref. 35280]). Current status: Valid as Argyripnus ephippiatus Gilbert & Cramer 1897. Sternoptychidae: Maurolicinae. Distribution: Western Pacific and Hawaiian Islands, Queensland (Australia), Sea of Japan, probably more widespread. Habitat: marine.
