Neotype designation by Fricke 1999:343 [ref. 24106] is invalid; see Fricke 2000:639 [ref. 24537]. First reviser selecting macrolepidotus over acuminatus apparently Cuvier 1816:335 [ref. 993], see also ICZN Opinion 40. •Synonym of Heniochus acuminatus (Linnaeus 1758) -- (Burgess 1978:223 [ref. 700], Allen 1980:163 [ref. 22764], Fricke 1999:342 [ref. 24106], Allen et al. 2006:1299 [ref. 29090]). •Valid as Heniochus macrolepidotus (Linnaeus 1758) -- (Kottelat 2013:365 [ref. 32989]). Current status: Valid as Heniochus macrolepidotus (Linnaeus 1758). Chaetodontidae: Heniochinae. Distribution: Indo-West Pacific: Aliwal Shoal and KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa), East Africa (Mozambique, Tanzania), Persian Gulf, Socotra (Yemen), Seychelles, Comoros, Madagascar, Saint Brandon's Shoals (Cargados Carajos) and Mascarenes (La RĂ©union, Mauritius, Rodrigues) east to Society Islands (French Polynesia), north to southern Sea of Japan (Korea, Japan), south to New South Wales (Australia) and Lord Howe Island (Australia). Introduced in northern Black Sea. Habitat: marine.
