L.] 1965:40, Figs. 1a, 1b, 2 [Japanese Journal of Ichthyology v. 13 (nos 1/3); ref. 9206] South China Sea, about 170 miles south of Hong Kong, 19°20'N, 114°13' to 16'E, depth 500-530 fathoms. Holotype (unique): USNM 198121. •Valid as Anacanthobatis melanosoma (Chan 1965) -- (Séret 1986:322 [ref. 6753], McEachran & Dunn 1998:285 [ref. 23312], Last & Compagno 1999:1465 [ref. 24639], Compagno 1999:493 [ref. 25589], Compagno in Randall & Lim 2000:582 [ref. 25122]). •Valid as Sinobatis melanosoma (Chan 1965) -- (Last & Séret 2007:57 [ref. 29446], Ebert et al. 2013:357 [ref. 33045], Weigmann et al. 2014:117 [ref. 33204], Weigmann 2016:127 [ref. 34211] see remarks, Last & Bussarawit 2016:161 [ref. 34738], Stehmann & Weigmann 2016:347 [ref. 34886] and as cf. melanosoma, Last et al. 2016:30 [ref. 34941] with remarks, Séret et al. 2016:505 [ref. 35007]). Current status: Valid as Sinobatis melanosoma (Chan 1965). Anacanthobatidae. Distribution: Western North Pacific. Habitat: marine.
