Based on description in manuscript by Forster (Johann Reinhold Forster, 1729-1798, German explorer and naturalist of Cook's second voyage). •Valid as Caesioperca lepidoptera (Forster 1901) -- (Paxton et al. 1989:503 [ref. 12442], Paulin et al. 1989:176 [ref. 24556], Aizawa & Matsuura in Amaoka et al. 1990:251 [ref. 16024], Kuiter 1993:137 [ref. 23929], Gomon et al. 1994:531 [ref. 22532], Kuiter 1997:120 [ref. 25488], Hutchins 2001:29 [ref. 25847], Allen et al. 2006:983 [ref. 29078], Roberts & Gomon 2008:538 [ref. 30641], Roberts 2015:1183 [ref. 34193], Anderson 2018:10 [ref. 36146], Parenti & Randall 2020:10 [ref. 37354]). Current status: Valid as Caesioperca lepidoptera (Forster 1801). Anthiadidae. Distribution: Southwestern Pacific: Australia and New Zealand. Habitat: marine.
