Holotype (unique): USNM 39417. •Questionably valid as Bassogigas gillii Goode & Bean 1896 -- (Nielsen & Cohen 1986:345 [ref. 5700]). •Valid as Bassogigas gillii Goode & Bean 1896 -- (Nielsen 1980:18 [ref. 6926], McEachran & Fechhelm 1998:707 [ref. 23897], Nielsen & Cohen in Nielsen et al. 1999:54 [ref. 24448] as gilli, Menezes & Figueiredo in Menezes et al. 2003:59 [ref. 27192], Nielsen & Robins 2003:968 [ref. 27008], Moore et al. 2003:205 [ref. 27076], Garrido-Linares & Acero P. 2006:293 [ref. 28946], Mincarone et al. 2008:49 [ref. 29626], Costa & Mincarone 2010:330 [ref. 37483], Fricke et al. 2011:366 [ref. 31242], Nielsen & Møller 2011:785 [ref. 31447], Fricke et al. 2018:83 [ref. 35805]).
