I.] 1902:38 [Dnevnik' Zoologicheskogo Otdelenya Obshchestva Lyubiteley Estestvoznaniya, Antropologii i Etnografii, Moskva v. 3 (no. 3); ref. 1868] Kicherskaya Bay, northern Lake Baikal, Russia. Holotype (unique): ZIN 9971. Genus Cyphocottus was not available from 2001, two included species after 1930 with no designation of a type species (Art. 13.3); dates to Sideleva 2003:193 [ref. 27815]. •Valid as Asprocottus megalops (Gratzianov 1902) -- (Taliev 1955:329 [ref. 4316]). •Valid as Limnocottus megalops (Gratzianov 1902) -- (Berg 1949:1162 [ref. 20662], Sideleva 1982:30 [ref. 14469], Reshetnikov et al. 1997:760 [ref. 24702], Sideleva 1998:157 [ref. 23595]). •Valid as Cyphocottus megalops (Gratzianov 1902) -- (Sideleva 2001:67 [ref. 26181], Bogutskaya et al. 2001:47 [ref. 26178], Sideleva 2003:18, 191 [ref. 27815] as Gratzianow, Bogutskaya & Naseka 2004:198 [ref. 28183] as Gratzianov, Goto et al. 2014:[15] [ref. 33456], Dyldin et al. 2020:116 [ref. 37569]). •Valid as Abyssocottus megalops (Gratzianov 1902) -- (Bogdanov 2023:67 [ref. 40329]). Current status: Valid as Cyphocottus megalops (Gratzianov 1902). Cottidae. Distribution: North Asia: Lake Baikal, but mainly in northern part (Russia). Habitat: freshwater.
