The name melanosoma is apparently a noun, so melanosoma is correct. •Synonym of Paragobiodon echinocephalus (Rüppell 1830) -- (Maugé 1986:380 [ref. 6218]). •Valid as Eleotris melanosoma (Bleeker 1853) in Eleotridae -- (Wu in Pan et al. 1991:431 [ref. 23876]). •Valid as Paragobiodon melanosomus (Bleeker 1853) -- (Yoshino & Yamamoto in Masuda et al. 1984:266 [ref. 6441], Myers 1999:257 [ref. 23965], Larson in Randall & Lim 2000:639 [ref. 25122], Nakabo 2000:1185 [ref. 25182], Hutchins 2001:43 [ref. 25847], Larson & Murdy 2001:3599 [ref. 26293], Nakabo 2002:1185 [ref. 26193], Allen & Adrim 2003:59 [ref. 26830] as melanosoma, Hoese & Larson 2006:1671 [ref. 29097] as melanosoma, Allen & Erdmann 2012:902 [ref. 31980] as melanosomus, Larson et al. 2013:204 [ref. 32988] dated 1852, Fricke et al. 2014:170 [ref. 33932], Wada et al. 2021:49 [ref. 38521]). Current status: Valid as Paragobiodon melanosoma (Bleeker 1853). Gobiidae: Gobiinae. Distribution: Western Pacific: Indonesia east to Marshall and Solomon islands, north to Amami Islands (southern Japan), south to northern Australia. Habitat: marine.
