rhacinus, Gadus Forster [J. R.] in Bloch & Schneider 1801:56, xxvii [M. E. Blochii, Systema Ichthyologiae; ref. 471] Queen Charlotte Sound, New Zealand. Neotype: NMNZ P.9640. Type catalog: Hardy 1990:8 [ref. 18942]. Diagnosis on p. 56 under the name Gadum Rhacinum. Name Latinized to Gadus rhacinus in index, p. xxvii. Neotype designated by Paulin 1983:99 [ref. 5459]. Based on description in manuscript by Forster (Johann Reinhold Forster, 1729-1798, German explorer and naturalist of Cook's second voyage). Name apparently should be rhacina when in Lotella, based on "Gadum rhacinum" as used by Forster and Gadus rhacinus on p. xxvii. •Valid as Lotella rhacinus (Forster 1801) -- (Paulin 1983:98 [ref. 5459], Paxton et al. 1989:300 [ref. 12442], Paulin et al. 1989:119 [ref. 24556], Cohen in Cohen et al. 1990:368 [ref. 18936], Paulin & Roberts 1992:131 [ref. 24625], Francis 1993:158 [ref. 25479], Duffy & Ahyong 2015:110 [ref. 36167]). •Valid as Lotella rhacina (Forster 1801) -- (Kuiter 1993:58 [ref. 23929], Gomon et al. 1994:330 [ref. 22532], Kuiter 1997:50 [ref. 25488], Hutchins 2001:22 [ref. 25847], Paxton et al. 2006:612 [ref. 28995], Gomon 2008:309 [ref. 30616], Struthers et al. 2015:857 [ref. 34267], Hoschke et al. 2019:154 [ref. 36626]). Current status: Valid as Lotella rhacina (Forster 1801). Moridae. Distribution: Southeastern Indian Ocean, southwestern Pacific: Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria, Tasmania and New South Wales (Australia), Lord Howe Island, New Zealand, Kermadec Islands. Habitat: marine.
