alii, Squaliolus Teng [H.-T.] 1959:1, Pl. 1 [Report - Laboratory of Fishery Biology, Taiwan Fisheries Research Institute No. 8; ref. 9074] Off Tungkang [Tongkang], Kao-Hsiung Prefecture, Taiwan, depth about 180 fathoms. Holotype (unique): TFRI 3837. Type catalog: Ho & Shao 2011:19 [ref. 31432]. Species was named after a woman (Teng's wife), and the name would have been formed as aliae or alae; however, original name was not given, aliae apparently correct. Also, the change is not mandatory (Art. 32), but it appears that aliae is an incorrect subsequent spelling in prevailing usage and should be maintained. •Questionably a synonym of Squaliolus laticaudus Smith & Radcliffe 1912 -- (Krefft & Tortonese 1973:48 [ref. 7165]). •Synonym of Squaliolus laticaudus Smith & Radcliffe 1912 -- (Seigel et al. 1977:788 [ref. 22774], McEachran & Branstetter in Whitehead et al. 1984:145 [ref. 13675], Compagno 1984:108 [ref. 6474]). •Valid as Squaliolus aliae Teng 1959 -- (Nakaya & Shirai in Masuda et al. 1984:11 [ref. 6441] as alii, Sasaki & Uyeno 1987:373 [ref. 6700], Last & Stevens 1994:90 [ref. 23873], Compagno & Niem 1998:1229 [ref. 23787], Suda et al. 1999:142 [ref. 23991], Compagno 1999:475 [ref. 25589], Nakabo 2000:151 [ref. 25086], Compagno in Randall & Lim 2000:580 [ref. 25122], Hutchins 2001:15 [ref. 25847], Nakabo 2002:151 [ref. 26001], Shinohara et al. 2005:395 [ref. 28370], Compagno et al. 2005:55 [ref. 29145], Hoese & Gates 2006:148 [ref. 28997], White 2008:95 [ref. 30617], Ho & Shao 2011:19 [ref. 31432], Castro 2011:156 [ref. 31457] as alii, Ebert et al. 2013:298 [ref. 33045], Weigmann 2016:56 [ref. 34211]).
