Holotype: NMC 85-0679A. Paratypes: NMC 85-0679 (4), 85-0680 (4). •Provisionally a synonym of Cobitis simplicispina Hankó 1925 -- (Erk'akan et al. 1999:24 [ref. 25143]). •Valid as Cobitis elazigensis Coad & Sarieyyüpoglu 1988 -- (Coad 1991:18 [ref. 15702], Coad 1995:21 [ref. 23608], Ludwig et al. 2001:388 [ref. 25216], Fricke et al. 2007:48 [ref. 29533], Kottelat 2012:25 [ref. 32367], Çiçek et al. 2015:148 [ref. 35151], Jouladeh-Roudbar et al. 2017:124 [ref. 35196], Eagderi et al. 2017:52 [ref. 35199], Erk'akan et al. 2017:88 [ref. 35341], Çiçek et al. 2018:16 [ref. 36267], Freyhof et al. 2018:16 [ref. 36385], Çiçek et al. 2020:244 [ref. 37644]). Current status: Valid as Cobitis elazigensis Coad & Sarieyyüpoglu 1988. Cobitidae. Distribution: Asia Minor and Middle East: Upper Euphrates River basin (Turkey, Iran and possibly Syria). Habitat: freshwater.
