Paratypes: CAS-SU 7784 (1). Type catalog: Böhlke 1953:144 [ref. 12291]. If the subspecies oceanicus is recognized, then the oldest name for that subspecies is Tetraodon janthinus Vaillant & Sauvage 1875. •Synonym of Lagocephalus lagocephalus (Linnaeus 1758), but a valid subspecies -- (Kyushin et al. 1977:368 [ref. 19756], Matsuura in Masuda et al. 1984:364 [ref. 6441], Nakabo 2000:1430 [ref. 25182], Nakabo 2002:1430 [ref. 26193], Motomura et al. 2010:238 [ref. 31256]). •Valid as Lagocephalus oceanicus Jordan & Evermann 1903 -- (Lindberg et al. 1997:158 [ref. 23547]). •Synonym of Lagocephalus lagocephalus (Linnaeus 1758) -- (Gomon et al. 1994:906 [ref. 22532], Parin 2003:S34 [ref. 28536], Mundy 2005:536 [ref. 28379], Randall 2007:495 [ref. 30952], Wu et al. 2011:623 [ref. 32150], Parin et al. 2014:552 [ref. 33547]). Current status: Synonym of Lagocephalus lagocephalus (Linnaeus 1758). Tetraodontidae. Habitat: marine.
