Current status: Synonym of Cynoponticus savanna (Bancroft 1831). Muraenesocidae. Habitat: brackish, marine. brasiliensis, Conger Ranzani [C.] 1839:79 [15], Pl. 13 (figs. 1a-b) [Novi Commentarii Academiae Scientiarum Instituti Bononiensis v. 4 [1840]; ref. 18606] Brazil. Holotype (unique): MZUB 987. Appeared first without description as Ranzani in Alessandrini 1838:433 [ref. 25852]. Dates to publication in a separate, on p. 15 and Pl. 6 in 1839; journal version in 1840. •Synonym of Cynoponticus savanna (Bancroft 1831) -- (Smith 1989:437 [ref. 13285]). Current status: Synonym of Cynoponticus savanna (Bancroft 1831). Muraenesocidae. Habitat: brackish, marine. savanna, Conger Bancroft [E. Appeared as Conger savanna? with reference to undescribed Muraena savanna Cuvier. Sometimes authorship given as Cuvier 1819; see Muraena savanna. Holotype from James Maclaine 17 Aug. 2015. •Valid as Cynoponticus savanna (Bancroft 1831) -- (Uyeno & Sasaki in Uyeno et al. 1983:115 [ref. 14275], Robins & Ray 1986:59 [ref. 23100], Smith 1989:437 [ref. 13285], Cervigón 1991:71 [ref. 24472], Cervigón 1992:365 [ref. 23827], Andreata & Séret 1996:582 [ref. 16204], Aguilera 1998:46 [ref. 24221], Camargo & Isaac 2001:139 [ref. 27639], Menezes in Menezes et al. 2003:36 [ref. 27192], Smith 2003:738 [ref. 26989], Pinheiro et al. 2015:7 [ref. 34324], Spier et al. 2018:6 [ref. 36103], Rotundo et al. in Marceniuk et al. 2021:117 [ref. 38945], Carvalho-Filho 2023:56 [ref. 40480], Fricke et al. 2024:128 [ref. 41622]). Current status: Valid as Cynoponticus savanna (Bancroft 1831). Muraenesocidae. Distribution: Western Atlantic: Quintana Roo (Mexico) south to São Paulo (Brazil), including Caribbean Sea. Habitat: brackish, marine. curvidens, Congrus Richardson [J.] 1848:111 [Ichthyology of the voyage of H. M. S. Erebus & Terror v. 2 (2); ref. 3740] Locality unknown; BMNH register says "West Indies: Caribbean Sea" which seems unlikely. Holotype (unique): BMNH 1843.2.1.14 (dry). •Questionably a synonym of Cynoponticus savanna (Bancroft 1831) -- (Smith 1989:437 [ref. 13285]). Current status: Uncertain as Cynoponticus savanna (Bancroft 1831). Muraenesocidae. Habitat: brackish, marine. |
