Distribution: Eastern Indian Ocean, western Pacific: Christmas Island and Western Australia east to western Pacific, north to Pacific coast of central Japan. Former Red Sea records are now assigned to S. lessepsianus Russell, Golani & Tikochinski 2015. Habitat: marine.
