Distribution: Red Sea, Indo-West Pacific: Amirantes, Maldives, Chagos Archipelago and Western Australia east to Hawaiian Islands and Marquesas Islands, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia and Loyalty Islands (New Caledonia). Different genetic groups distinguished [ref. 37115], species may be restricted to Palau and eastern Indonesia to Hawaiian Islands. Habitat: marine.
