Marlina Grey [Z.] 1928:47 Fem. Tetrapturus mitsukurii Jordan & Snyder 1901. Type by monotypy. There is no indication that this name was being proposed as a new genus, but it is an available generic name. •Synonym of Tetrapturus Rafinesque 1810 -- (de Sylva 1973:480 [ref. 7210], Nakamura 1983:294 [ref. 5371], Nakamura 1985:35 [ref. 20161]). Unjustifiably emended to Notistium by Agassiz 1845:42 [ref. 4889] and 1846:251 [ref. 64]. •Synonym of Istiophorus Lacepède 1801 -- (de Sylva 1973:477 [ref. 7210], Nakamura 1983:276 [ref. 5371] and Nakamura 1985:20 [ref. 20161] as Notistium). Scheponopodus is a misspelling or unjustified emendation. •Synonym of Istiophorus Lacepède 1801 -- (de Sylva 1973:477 [ref. 7210] and Nakamura 1983:277 [ref. 5371] and Nakamura 1985:20 [ref. 20161], with type as guebucu; they also place in the synonymy of Tetrapturus Rafinesque 1810 with type as "typus"). Tetrapturus Cuvier [G.] in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1832:286 Masc. In the 1990 edition of the "Genera" we had type as indicus by monotypy, but that is incorrect, since Rafinesque's belone also was included; this record should be cancelled as it was not intended as an original genus description separate from Rafinesque 1810.
