Distribution: Indo-Pacific: Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa), East Africa, Socotra (Yemen), Comoros, Madagascar and Mascarenes (La Réunion, Mauritius, Rodrigues) east to Hawaiian islands (U.S.A.), north to central Japan and Ogasawara Islands (Japan), south to Lord Howe Island (Australia), northern New Zealand, Kermadec Islands, Rapa (French Polynesia) and Ducie (Pitcairn Group); eastern Pacific: southern tip of Baja California (Mexico) south to Panama, including Clipperton Island (France) and Galapagos Islands. Habitat: marine.
