latovittatus, Taenianotus Lacepède [B. G. E.] 1802:303, 304, not Pl. 3 (fig. 2) [Histoire naturelle des poissons (Lacepède) v. 4; ref. 4929] Mauritius, Mascarenes, southwestern Indian Ocean. No types known. The description can be referred to Malacanthus latovittatus (Lacepède 1801), but the plate represents a scorpaenoid (see Apistus taeniatus Cuvier 1829 and Bauchot & Desoutter 1989:35 [ref. 15502]). Neotype designation by Fricke 1999:240 [ref. 24106] is invalid; see Fricke 2000:639 [ref. 24537]. The description is regarded as independent from Labrus latovittatus Lacepède 1801, but both represent the same species, Malacanthus latovittatus, so Taenianotus latovittatus is secondarily preoccupied. •The description and plate represent different families. 2°Homonym.
