Distribution: Red Sea; Indo-West Pacific: Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa), East Africa, Persian Gulf, Aldabra (Seychelles), Madagascar and Mascarenes (Mauritius) east to Philippines, New Ireland (Papua New Guinea) and Vanuatu, north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia and southeastern Queensland (Australia); Mediterranean Sea (Red Sea immigrant). Habitat: brackish, marine.
